TRAVEL TIPS

Getting Here and Around

Both Le Air and Flamingo Air offer twice-daily flights from Nassau to Mangrove Cay Airport (MAY). The cay's main road runs south from Moxey Town, past the airport, then along coconut-tree-shaded beaches to the settlement of Lisbon Creek. Car rentals are available from B&I Enterprises and PG's Car Rental for exploring Mangrove Cay's 8 miles of roads. They run about $70 to $85 a day. Taxis meet airplanes and ferries (as do many lodges and hotels) and are available for touring around the 7-mile-long cay.

A free government ferry makes the half-hour trip between Mangrove Cay (Lisbon Creek) and South Andros (Driggs Hill) twice daily. It departs from South Andros at 9 am and 5 pm and from Mangrove Cay at 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, but schedules are subject to change. Call the South Andros Tourist Office for information. There's no public transportation from Central Andros to Mangrove Cay.

At this writing, there was no public ferry to Central Andros from Mangrove Cay or from South Andros, but the government was hoping to establish a new round-trip ferry service from Kemp's Bay to Lisbon Creek (Mangrove Cay), and then to Behring Point (Central Andros), where a new concrete dock was built in spring 2015.
